Every month in Utah, 24 people die due to prescription opioid abuse. Many of us know someone affected by the new opidemic. It affects our family, our friends, and our community. At Cadence Chiropractic, we are focused on helping you gain true health with out the use of drugs or surgery.
During the beginning of Dr. Nelson's career, he had the great opportunity
to work at Myrtle Hilliard Davis Health Centers in St. Louis, Missouri.
Myrtle Hilliard was established as a way for underserved populations to
get the health care they need. In St. Louis, 29.3% of the population
falls below the national poverty line and over 13% of the entire
state of Missouri is uninsured.
Dr. Nelson had the opportunity to provide chiropractic care for hundreds of people suffering from pain to help them find a safe, natural way to avoid pain killer medications and the dangerous addictions they can cause.
One of the most amazing people Dr. Nelson had the chance to meet was Catherine. Catherine was involved in a terrible car accident that saw her and her husband pushed off the road by a person texting while driving. Catherine ended up in the bottom of a ditch and hit a tree when the car burst into flames. When Catherine was pulled from the flaming car, it was found that she had suffered a terrible injury to her leg that almost required amputation. Catherine was left with long standing leg pain, back pain, neck pain, and daily headaches and, like 40% of the Myrtle Hilliard patient base, she was put on pain medication.
Catherine was soon referred as a chiropractic patient to help her get off the medication and decrease the pain. Today Catherine is now able to move and function with less medication so that she can enjoy the life that was spared during her accident.
Chiropractic has been proven to be an effective treatment option for pain and has shown to decrease the dependence on pain medication. Chiropractic is also one of the safest treatment options available. At Cadence Chiropractic we are one of five chiropractors in the state of Utah advanced certified in a technique that involves no twisting popping or cracking.
Chiropractic has been proven so effective that the Clinical guideline Agency for Health Care Policy and Research recommend chiropractic care as first treatment for acute low back pain in adults. It was also shown in another major research article that for acute low back pain (<4 weeks' duration), the only nonpharmacologic therapies with evidence of efficacy are superficial heat and chiropractic care.
At Cadence Chiropractic we promise to listen to your individual concerns and want to help you reach your health goals. We are dedicated to fighting the opioid epidemic here in Utah by providing a safe effective alternative to opioid medication.
Dr Nelson is one of the leading authorities in chiropractic care for pain patients in Utah. Dr Nelson has had the opportunity to be an expert speaker for the Intermountain Health Care Pain Symposium in Park City Utah. Dr Nelson is now leading the charge to get chiropractic care integrated into the Intermountain Health Care system to help decrease the opioid epidemic in Utah.
